Fairy Type in Pokémon GO
Fairy-type Pokémon in Pokémon GO: what Fairy is strong against, weak to and resists, its weather boost, well-known examples and practical tips.
Fairy was added to the type chart to check Dragon-types, and that shows clearly in the matchups: Fairy is super effective against Fighting, Dragon and Dark, and Dragon-type moves do only around 0.39× to a Fairy-type, Pokémon GO's version of the core series immunity. Its own weaknesses are narrow: just Poison and Steel.
Fairy type matchups
Fairy's type chart lists are the newest additions to the game's matchups: three 1.6× targets, two weaknesses, and four resistances including Dragon at ~0.39×.
Fairy is strong against
Fairy is weak to
Fairy resists
- Fighting — damage reduced to 0.625×
- Bug — damage reduced to 0.625×
- Dragon — damage reduced to ~0.39× (barely effective)
- Dark — damage reduced to 0.625×
Weather boost
Cloudy weather boosts Fairy-types, shared with Fighting and Poison. Cloudy days are common, so Fairy attackers often get their boost when a Dragon-type Legendary is in raids; the weather boosts page covers the details.
Well-known Fairy-type Pokémon
Fairy-types that trainers know well, several of which were retyped to Fairy when the type was introduced:

- Granbull
Practical GO tips
- A Fairy-type attacker is one of the best answers to a Dragon-type raid boss, since Dragon moves do only ~0.39× to a Fairy-type in return.
- Fairy-types are also effective against Fighting and Dark-type targets.
- Fairy also resists Fighting, Bug and Dark, so a Fairy-type sent against a Fighting- or Dark-type boss takes reduced damage while dishing out 1.6×.
Fairy's two weaknesses, Poison and Steel, are attacking types that many raid bosses don't carry, which is part of why Fairy attackers feel so safe against Dragons; still, check the boss's moves before assuming there's no risk.
To beat a Fairy-type, Poison and Steel are the only types that get the 1.6× bonus, and both also resist Fairy's attacks.
FAQ
Why can't Dragon moves hurt Fairy-types?
It's a core series rule that Pokémon GO keeps in softened form: Dragon-type attacks do about 0.39× to a Fairy-type instead of zero. Combined with Fairy's 1.6× against Dragon, that makes Fairy attackers a comfortable choice against Dragon bosses, provided the boss doesn't also carry Poison or Steel moves.
