Ice is a strong offensive type, hitting four other types super effectively including Dragon, which has few resistances to Ice elsewhere on the chart. Defensively, though, Ice is fragile: it resists only itself and is weak to four separate types.

Practical GO tips
- An Ice-type attacker is one of the most reliable answers to Dragon-type raid bosses, since Dragon-types otherwise resist a lot of common attacking types.
- Ice-types tend to be fragile defensively, weak to Fire, Fighting, Rock and Steel, so they're usually played as attackers rather than long-term Gym defenders.
- Ice moves hit Ground, Flying and Grass as well as Dragon, so an Ice attacker doubles up against common dual types such as Ground/Flying (Landorus, Gliscor) or Dragon/Flying (Dragonite, Rayquaza).
Ice's poor defensive profile is the reason most trainers use Ice-types for raiding and PvP offense rather than for holding Gyms; that's a pattern, not a rule, and a bulky Ice-type can still hold its own.
If you need to beat an Ice-type, Fire, Fighting, Rock and Steel all hit it for 1.6×, and Fire and Steel resist Ice's attacks as well.
FAQ
Why is Ice so good against Dragon when Dragon resists so much?
Dragon resists Fire, Water, Electric and Grass, but not Ice, and Ice is one of only three types that hit Dragon super effectively. Because Ice also hits Flying for 1.6×, a Dragon/Flying boss such as Dragonite or Rayquaza takes 2.56× from an Ice attack.
